H i Wildcats!

On behalf of the Panhellenic Council Executive Board, we are so excited that you are interested in joining the Greek Community. My name is Allie and I am the Panhellenic Executive Board's Vice President of Membership Recruitment. The Panhellenic community at U of A is made up of 13 amazing chapters. Each chapter is unique and different in their own way.

Joining Panhellenic is one of the greatest decisions I have ever made as it has made my time here at the University of Arizona so much more amazing than I ever could have imagined. I have made so many connections, amazing memories, and life-long friendships. As I write this I think back to three years ago right around this time when I was deciding to go through Panhellenic Recruitment and I never could have imagined being the Vice President of Membership Recruitment. Now Recruitment is my favorite time of year, it gives us the opportunity to grow our chapters and gain valuable new members. I would like to encourage all of you to "Go Greek" as it creates so many opportunities and wonderful experiences and we as a community cannot wait to add so many new and amazing members to our community! I know that I personally have grown so much since joining the Panhellenic Community and I hope that you can have the same amazing experiences.

Formal Recruitment

Panhellenic Council hosts formal recruitment each Fall Semester. It is an opportunity to visit each Panhellenic sorority on the Arizona campus. Potential new members (PNMs) will meet every chapter and learn what each has to offer. As the week continues, PNMs will visit fewer chapters and will make a final decision by selecting the right group for them.

Registration began on April 1st and has a $75 registration fee. Beginning on July 16th, the fee will raise to $100, until August 13th, when registration closes. The registration fee is non-refundable. Registering for recruitment does not guarantee that each PNM will get a bid.

If the Formal Recruitment process is not for you, there is always the opportunity to participate in Continuous Open Bidding (COB), which is the informal recruitment process that takes place after formal recruitment and during the Spring semester. Participating in this process also does not guarantee a bid.

Registration Process Overview

The registration process is a simple process and we are hoping to answer all of your questions to alleviate any stress before you even feel it. Registration for Formal Recruitment is done through the Campus Director platform. Once you create your account, you will be tasked with answering questions to better help the Panhellenic Council and each of the chapters get to know you better. (Make a note of your log-in email and password, you will use it often throughout the summer and the recruitment process!) These questions include simple demographic type questions as well as some open ended questions about yourself. Registration will be completed once the registration fee has been paid (this $75 registration fee increases to $100 on July 18th, and is non-refundable).

As a PNM, you will also need to upload a short video answering a few questions about yourself, although it does not need to be completed before you aregister for recruitment. Directions can be found here. After completing the registration form and paying the registration fee, you can come back into your Campus Director account at any time in order to add in your PNM video link or take a look at your registration and make any necessary updates. Set 1 will be determined based on the registration questions and PNM video, so it is important to pay attention and give it your best.  You have until August 14th to get your PNM video done, but we recommend working on it early so you can relax and enjoy their summer without stress of one more thing you have to do.

Here's a tip: Don't rush through the registration process, wait until you have time to sit down and read each question carefully! Good luck and we will see you in the Fall!

Recruitment Registration Scholarships

We as a Panhellenic Community understand that times have been tough in the face of COVID-19 and paying the recruitment registration fee may be an added stress. We are offering needs-based recruitment registration fee scholarships in an effort to ensure this scholarship goes to women who would not be likely able to go through Formal Fall Recruitment otherwise. Please also note that we are only able to give out a limited number of scholarships. This scholarship is done at the reimbursement level, so once recipients are chosen, they will be mailed checks to reimburse them for the registration fee they already paid. You can find the scholarship application here. You must complete your recruitment registration in order to be eligible for the scholarship. The deadline for registration scholarships is August 13th, 2021, at 11:59pm.

Set 1/PNM Video Guidance

Set 1 videos (also called PNM Videos) are a short video introducing oneself to the chapters helping them to get to know each PNM a little bit better. With the removal of interactive Set 1 events, we introduced Set 1 videos for both chapter and PNMs.

PNMs will get to watch each chapter's video and make their selections based on what is shared in those videos. Chapters will watch all of the PNM videos and review the questions answered on the registration form to make their selections. Because of their high importance, PNM videos are mandatory. Videos do not have to be completed before you register for recruitment, and they can be completed any time before the video deadline, August 14th. iValU

iValU is a new addition to the Fall Formal Recruitment process at the University of Arizona. This additional programming is intended to bring more of a values-based recruitment to the University of Arizona Panhellenic Community, as well as help PNMs identify their values which can assist when making Set 1 selections.

PNMs will take a values assessment in order to learn about themselves and be given their top values. This will help PNMs and the chapters by giving PNMs the right tools to feel empowered and seek out chapters whose values align with their own. We know that values-based recruitment helps organizations recruit and retain life-long members.

2021 Formal Recruitment Schedule

The Panhellenic Council is excited to announce the dates and format of Fall Formal Recruitment!

• PNM Orientation – Virtual, via D2L – Sunday, August 22 - Wednesday, Aug 25
• Set I* – Open House – Monday, August 23 – Wednesday, August 25 - watch informational videos of all sororities on campus.
• Set II* – Philanthropy – Saturday, August 28 – Sunday, August 29 -  virtually visit up to 8 Panhellenic organizations between the two dates
• Set III* – Sisterhood - Friday, September 3 – Saturday, September 4 - virtually visit up to 5 Panhellenic organizations
• Set IV – Preference – Sunday, September 5 - visit up to 2 Panhellenic organizations in-person
• Bid Day – Monday, September 6 - receive a bid and attend celebrations with their chapters in-person on campus

* Virtual Events: Sets I, II, and III will take place through the Zoom and Desire 2 Learn (D2L) platforms.

GPA and Academic Expectations

Chapter GPA Requirements

While there is no required GPA to register for recruitment, the Panhellenic Council strongly suggests a minimum 3.0 core high school GPA. The recommended college GPA for those with 12+ college units is a 2.75. Most chapters internally require a 3.0 core GPA from high school but requirements vary, so please refer to The Bond or the specific sorority chapter profiles.

In the summer after registering for Recruitment, Potential New Members (PNMs) will receive a confirmation email. This email will include general information about recruitment. Approximately two weeks after registration, PNMs will have a meeting with their Recruitment Counselor, where the RC will confirm their CORE GPA. This is what the University of Arizona Admissions Office has given Panhellenic. This CORE GPA is calculated using grades from your first six semesters of high school unweighted, or your cumulative college GPA per the ABOR Course Competencies.

PNM's GPA will be verified using the CORE GPA from grades 9-11. If you wish to include your 12th grade GPA, you must submit this update to the Panhellenic Council to recalculate your CORE GPA. If you wish to submit your 12th-grade transcripts, please send a copy of your transcript to uapanhellenic.recruitment@gmail.com by August 14th.

Per FERPA regulations, Panhellenic is not able to share information about this topic with parents, but we are more than happy to speak with PNMs about their GPA.

Grade Explanation Form

If you are participating in Formal Recruitment and do not meet the recommended GPA, you may fill out the grade explanation form if you experienced extenuating circumstances that negatively impacted your GPA. These forms will be reviewed by the Panhellenic Executive Board and shared with the chapters. The deadline to complete this form is August 14th.

Letters of Recommendation

Letters of Recommendation or Recruitment Information Form (REC or RIF) are a chapter alumna's chance to introduce a potential new member (PNM) to a sorority, allowing their members to get to know a PNM prior to Formal  Recruitment. There are unique forms to each chapter that are provided by the national organization for their alumnae to fill out on behalf of PNMs. The letters are written by an alumna or by a collegiate member of a sorority. Rules on who writes a letter of REC or RIF vary by organization.These letters are not required, nor do they guarantee you a bid. Each year, women receive bids to join who did not have any letters of recommendation.

Potential New Members can ask women in their lives if they were in a sorority including family, friends, parents co-workers, and family-friends. If a PNM does not know anyone in their direct life, they can Google "their hometown + Alumnae Panhellenic Association" and they can assist in acquiring letters of recommendation.

Financial Information

One of the requirements of membership is paying dues, either per semester or per year. Dues are set by the chapters themselves and cover a variety of things, such as chapter events/programming, apparel, campus use space, chapter facility upkeep, operational costs and materials, among other things.

What to Expect/All You Need to Know

Starting on April 1st, Potential New Members (PNM's) can register for Fall Formal Recruitment. Registering for recruitment is through the Campus Director website. There, you will be able to upload your required PNM video before August 14th. Your PNM video is a short introduction to who you are and it will help chapters to get an idea of who you are. The directions for this video can be found here.

To register for recruitment you must pay the recruitment registration fee, the fee is $75 on/before July 15th but will go up to $100 starting July 16th.

You can expect your Recruitment Counselor (RC) to reach out to you approximately two weeks after you have completed your registration and/or after the Spring semester has concluded (in mid-May). This is so that PNMs will have contact with their RC throughout the Summer months to assist with any questions, concerns, or help they may need. We have directed RC's to withhold contact until the Spring semester has ended to ensure that everyone finishes out the semester strong.

Recruitment Counselors

Recruitment Counselors, also known as RCs, are impartial representatives selected to assist PNM's to find their forever homes within the chapters in our community. These women have completely disaffiliated from their own chapters to act as unbiased guides through all things recruitment. They are here to model the way for PNMs and promote Panhellenic love throughout the process.

To be selected as a Recruitment Counselor is a great honor. RCs have to understand all sides of recruitment: this means each RC has gone through recruitment as a PNM, been a recruiter for her chapter, and now they are completely disaffiliated in order to help each PNM find their home. These women were interviewed extensively and are here to be completely unbiased helping hand, they have been in PNMs' shoes and understand the process but will not influence PNMs to join any specific chapter.

RCs will begin to reach out to PNMs that have completed the registration process on or after May 15th. PNMs can ask their RCs anything that they are confused about, need help with, or even just for some words of wisdom and advice. Each RC is assigned multiple PNMs, this will be an RC group. Your RC group is an amazing way to make connections and create lasting friendships even if you do not end up in the same chapter. Your RC group will have meetings with your RC to answer questions, get information, or even just to bond.

What is a bid/who receives a bid?

A bid is an invitation to join a chapter that you have completed the recruitment process with. A potential new member has the opportunity to receive no more than one bid during the formal recruitment process. It is not guaranteed to receive a bid after the preference round of recruitment. The people who receive the bids are potential new members participating in the formal recruitment process.

Legacy Policies

A legacy is a Potential New Member who has a direct familial relation to an alumnae sorority member, this may include sisters, mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers. Some chapters also consider legacy to be from other relations including aunts, cousins, step, and half family. Being a legacy does NOT guarantee a bid to that chapter.

Legacy policies vary by chapter and some chapters have recently moved to greatly change or dissolve entirely their legacy policies. For more information on each chapter's specific legacy policy, click here. Questions about specific legacy policies should be directed to that chapter's Headquarters.

Get Comfortable - What to Wear

The best thing to do as a potential new member is to make sure that you are feeling comfortable and able to authentically be yourself when meeting women from the chapters! This will maximize your recruitment experience, and aid you in finding the perfect place for you.

We recommend dressing to whatever you think is cute and comfortable and will help you to be confident throughout the process. As you move through recruitment rounds your attire should increase in formality.

• Set 1 is videos, wear a neutral non-distracting top. Remember, nobody will see below your waist.
• Set 2 is virtual. Again we recommend a neutral, non-distracting top and whatever bottoms you want. Nobody will see them.
• Set 3 is also virtual. At this point, you can switch to a nice blouse or sundress/romper. However, this event will be virtual so nobody will see below your waist!
• Set 4 is in person. You might be learning about a chapter's ritual, so dress to respect them. We recommend a sundress or nice top/bottom combo. Think brunch with your grandparents. Wear comfortable shoes (you'll be walking around campus).

No matter the set, the most important thing is to just be comfortable and confident. For Set IV, which will be in-person, you will need to be ready for the hot Arizona sun. Pack your sunscreen and dress in whatever will help you be comfortable for long days.

PNM Orientation will be held virtually through the D2L platform from Sunday, August 22 through Wednesday, August 25th. D2L is the University of Arizona's learning management system. You will use it for several classes as well.

PNM Orientation will help PNMs to get familiar with the process, participate in educational programming, and prepare for recruitment. It will be open and available to work on at your own pace throughout the dates listed. PNM Orientation should not take attention away from classes. As Formal Recruitment gets closer, Recruitment Counselors will be able to assist PNMs with navigating the D2L site.

MRABA

The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement, also known as the MRABA, is a document that is completed after the final round (Preference Round) of recruitment. After all the rounds leading up to this moment, PNMs are required to list every chapter they visited that day, leaving chapters off is not an option. After the Preference Round, this changes.

A PNM should only list the chapters she would accept a bid from on her MRABA. By completing and signing the MRABA she is stating that if she receives a bid from any of the organizations listed she would accept it, and that she understands if she receives a bid but then declines it she is not eligible to join a sorority until the next formal recruitment period, which for the University of Arizona would be Fall 2022.

Once submitted the MRABA cannot be changed or edited. Before completing the MRABA, the PNM will be given the chance to read, review, and ask questions no fewer than 3 times. This subject will be covered in the Parent and Family Orientation as well.

Why should my student join a Greek organization?

At the University of Arizona, we take great pride in our Greek organizations and all that they stand for. College can be so much more than just classes and homework; it is also a time for growth and development. Greek Life can foster the education of the whole person.  Having your student be a part of a Greek organization means several things, including long-lasting friendships, improved academics, leadership development, campus involvement, community service, and so much more.

Parent/Family Orientation

Families of PNMs are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on Thursday, August 12th—the exact time and location of this will be found at greek.arizona.edu at a later date. It will also be emailed to the emergency contact listed on PNM registration forms.

Families will receive information about formal recruitment week events and a general overview of fraternity/sorority life. Families will also learn how members obtain scholastic support, gain community and volunteer experience, establish networking relationships with alumni, and develop close friendships with chapter members and those in other Greek organizations. Attend to ask questions of other parents, Council Executive Board Officers, and UArizona Staff.
